Confined Space Training-Basic and Advance

 

1.0 PURPOSE

To provide relevant and appropriate training to individuals those that enter and work in confined spaces, stand by attendants and supervisors of Confined Spaces ensuring that the syllabus and instruction materials are in strict accordance with the CSA, OSHA, ANSI, and WORKSAFEBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.

2.0 INFORMATION

The training course is based on CSA Z1006-10 (R2015) and ANSI/ASSE Z117.1-2009 standards for safety requirements for Confined Spaces. The training provided by Metro Safety Training Inc. consists of two parts. The first part is based on the theoretical instruction from our in-depth training modules. These consist of slide shows, videos, lecture materials, and questionnaires. The second part is the practical portion. This part consists of becoming familiarized with the Confined space equipment and use. Our Basic program is 4 hours long and is aimed at training attendants. Our Advanced program is 8 hours and is aimed at training entrants and supervisors.

All students will have ample opportunity to work with the instructor so that they can be fully evaluated and certified. Our goal is to certify safe, skilled workers and students.

3.0 COURSE CONTENT

 3.1 PART 1: THEORETICAL (50%)

The first part of the course uses specifically designed training modules that are located in the course manual, and provided digitally to each student. The course is based on the CSA, ANSI standards for Confined Space safety requirements. Also, these are in full compliance to WORKSAFEBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. This training consists of 13 modules, which include:

  1. Federal, Provincial and Site specific Rules, Regulations and Policies
  2. Definition of Confined space
  3. Hazards of Confined space
  4. Permit-Required Confined Space Program
  5. Training of Authorized Entrants
  6. Training of Authorized Attendants
  7. Confined space supervisors
  8. Calibrating and bump testing Gas Detectors
  9. Isolation and Lock out /tag out
  10. Testing spaces for Oxygen levels, Flammability and Toxicity
  11. Ventilation and confined space entry techniques
  12. Non emergency and emergency rescue
  13. Personal Protective Equipment

 At the end of the theoretical portion of the course (13 modules in total) there will be a test given based on the information presented in the course material. The test consists of 25 multiple-choice questions. The pass mark is 80%.

 3.2 PART 2: PRACTICAL (50%)

This part consists of a hands-on familiarization with the confined space equipment, the completion of inspecting, using and practising in or around the confined space mock up station. The pass mark is 80%. 

 4.0 CERTIFICATION

All successful graduates of our Confined Space Basic or Advance program will receive wallet size certification cards.

 5.0 RECORDS

The written and practical test records will be placed on the worker’s personal file and training is recorded in the training database.
